Paint Horse Pendant

Based on a drawing I posted in my other gallery, Paint Horse, I challenged myself to translate the picture into a wearable piece. This pendant is hand cut and pierced, consisting of two sheets of sterling silver that I soldered together for the body, and small copper "patches" that I sweat-soldered on and then Dremeled half to death I love my Dremel. The back is reinforced with lengths of flat silver wire soldered on to prevent bending or breakage, and there's a loop on the back to attach chains or bails as desired. I then dunked the whole thing in a liver of sulphur bath to create the black points on the horse, and polished it again to make it nice and shiny. Unfortunately, because of its high shine, it was difficult to get a good picture. I don't know what it is about that horse that was so inspiring, but hey, never question a muse. This was about a week's worth of sawing, soldering, and polishing.

This particular piece is personal, and will remain in my own collection - however, I've already got plans (and a couple of possible commissions) for other horses, so if you'd like one, just drop me a note! One such plan is a palomino done in yellow gold with a sterling mane and tail. Ooh, the possibilities get me all excited!
