Pele

My submission for the Artisan Crafts Mythology contest [link] - the volcano goddess Pele. Pele is widely known for her explosive temper, although she rewards kindness. On the island of Pele there was a volcanic eruption that wiped out the entire population of the island except for two people; and one of them was a prisoner who was scheduled for execution the next day. I've always been drawn to bad-tempered, beautiful goddesses who nonetheless have their own code of honor.

This piece features a large copper lentil bead that we made as practice and heated to create an interesting patina. I added Potawatomi stitch, a few simple strands of seed beads, and tassels to make a necklace that resembles lava flow.
